Woodlice
Identification and Recording
The Field Studies Council “The woodlouse name trail..a key to common woodlice" will allow you to determine the species of the nine most common woodlice likely to be found in Bedfordshire from live specimens. You will need a hand lens and some woodlouse handling skill! If you discover any other woodlice species, then please contact the recorder.
If you photograph woodlice and submit images for identification, please photograph or describe the head end and show the antennae and eyes. The rear end is also important as the shape of the uropods and telson at the extreme rear of the animals also helps identification. And a photo of the underneath of the woodlouse is helpful in showing gills etc.
If possible submit records using Adnoto. Please say on the Adnoto form if the species was determined using the key as it helps in verifying records. Photographs to support identification can be sent separately by email.
